Open Day – 75th anniversary

9 Jul 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Please join us at our Foster Road site to celebrate our 75th anniversary.

There will be fun for all the family: take on the Allotment Trail, find mini-beasts and fruit & vegetables, build a bug hotel, do some crafting activities, and play the Human Fruit Machine. Here is a sneak preview of some of the activities for children…

Children are also invited to make mini-bring gardens and bring them along for judging on the day at 1:30pm. There will be prizes, and a certificate for every entry

Activity sheets can be completed solo or with parents. Pencils and crayons provided.

Things to discover on the Allotment Trail include the apiary, community polytunnel, superbutt, scarecrow, pond, bug hotel, Trading Hut, compost area.

Identify fruit, vegetables and herbs at the Smell & Taste Table.

Everyone can join guided tours of the vegetable allotments, the community polytunnel, the apiary, and our chicken plots.

Displays include the history of our allotments since the formation of the society in 1947, and the Tower of Flowers created by Trumpington Stitchers. Stalls include our neighbours Trumpington Community Orchard and the Wildlife Trust.

Plus refreshments, fresh produce, tombola and more. Free entry.

We would especially like past and present members to join us for a group photograph at 1pm.

The society was created to manage the new allotments in 1947.  Below is the record of our first meeting in the Village Hall.

The record of the society’s inauguration and election of the first committee in 1947.
