Each plot is let to an individual (the plotholder or tenant) who is responsible for using it properly. In practice most chicken plots are run by groups who share the daily tasks essential for the birds’ welfare. All those assisting a tenant are required to become an Associate Member of the Allotment Society (see Associate Membership application form).
Tenants are responsible for maintaining their plots, their boundary fences and the structures (hen houses, runs and storage sheds) within the chicken plot. A new tenant may take on a new plot with structures left, in varying states of repair, by a previous tenant. Having some practical skills is strongly advised.
Our fenced chicken area is divided into 11 allotment plots of various sizes. Egg production is the main activity, although some plots have fruit trees and vegetable patches as well. A water trough (dip tank) is positioned in the chicken area, supplied by the mains. Tenants pay a charge for water along with their plot rent.
We usually have a waiting list. To apply, complete this form and tick the Chicken plot option.
Please read the Tenancy Agreement and Chicken Plot Rules. To take on a chicken plot, you must agree to abide by these Rules and sign the Tenancy Agreement.
