Public Transport

The Busway

Buses on Busway route A stop at Foster Road, at the north end of the allotment site. Buses now run every day – check thebusway.info for timetables.

Take care to disembark at the Foster Road stop – look for the sheltered bus stops. If you are unfamiliar with the route, ask the driver to let you off at Foster Road. Ring the stopping bell after passing Addenbrooke’s hospital. Otherwise, the bus might not stop at Foster Road and you will end up at the Park and Ride stop, much further away.

From the Foster Road busway stop walk south-west along the footpath. You will see our chicken allotments on your right and Trumpington Community Orchard on your left as you approach the vegetable allotments. Events are in the orchard or at the allotments Trading Hut, which is 300 metres further south-west. Just follow the footpath with the vegetable allotments on your left. You will see our community polytunnel as you approach the Trading Hut.

There is a shared-use path (for cyclists, pedestrians etc) alongside the Busway.

Other buses

At the time of writing, Trumpington Park and Ride buses stop at Anstey Way, every day.

Timetables and ticket information.

Train

The most convenient stop is Cambridge rail station. Expect to pay about £8-10 for a taxi ride from there (ask the driver to take you to the footpath at 80/82 Foster Road CB2 9JR). Alternatively, get the bus or bring your bicycle or walk (3km). There is another rail stop at the nearby village of Shelford (4km).

For more information about local services, visit the Trumpington Residents’ Association transport page.

Walk or Bicycle

There is a shared-use path from Addenbrooke’s hospital along the Busway (2km).

There is a shared-use path from Shelford Road. Look for the public footpath sign just north of the old railway bridge.

The Busway has a shared-use path alongside. From Cambridge rail station, head south. Pass Addenbrooke’s and the Clay Farm development on your left. (The developers and some misguided visitors call it “Great Kneighton” but locals don’t.)

Take care to leave the Busway path at the Foster Road stop – look out for the sheltered bus stops on either side of the Busway, and footpath upwards on the right leading to Foster Road. Head south-west along the footpath, past the chicken allotments and orchard, as described under “The Busway” above.

Note: There’s a sign near the Foster Road stop labelled “Trumpington 1/2”. If you find yourself in the old railway cutting heading towards a bridge, you’ve passed the Foster Road exit.

Road

If travelling from outside Cambridge, leave the M11 at junction 11 and head north on the A1309 (Hauxton Road) towards Cambridge. Pass the Park & Ride site and get in the left lane. Pass Waitrose supermarket on your left. Keep left and go straight on at the traffic lights where there is a junction with the A1301 (Shelford Road). After 150 metres take the first turning on the right (Anstey Way) opposite the Shell garage.

If travelling from Cambridge, head for Trumpington by taking Trumpington Road south out of town or by heading west along Long Road. Going south down Trumpington High Street you will pass the ‘Wok n Grill’ restaurant (was the Coach & Horses pub) on your right, Hudson’s Ale House (was the Tally Ho pub) on your left and shops on your left. Take the next turning on the left (Anstey Way) opposite the Shell garage.

At the end of Anstey Way, turn right onto Foster Road and continue for 400 metres. The site entrance is via the track between 80 and 82 Foster Road.

If you need to park on site, then by arrangement we can remove the bollard which usually blocks vehicular access. Otherwise park on Foster Road.
